Just two years after winning their first NBA championship, the Denver Nuggets have shocked fans by firing head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth—right before the playoffs. The second playoff coach in the west to exit before postseason.

Yes, the same coach who led them to the top is suddenly out. The move follows the Memphis Grizzlies firing their coach even though they were doing well, sparking a weird new NBA trend: firing people at the worst possible time.

Social media is blowing up with jokes and confusion. One post said firing your coach now is like changing drivers during a race. Others think the Nuggets are panicking after a losing streak, but still—firing a championship-winning coach? That’s bold.

For now, assistant coach David Adelman is taking over. Fans are also joking that star player Nikola Jokić should coach too—because, honestly, he kind of does everything already.

Whether this move helps or hurts the Nuggets is a mystery. In today’s NBA, players don’t just run the floor—they practically run the show. With mega contracts dwarfing coach and GM salaries, superstars often have more pull than the front office. Rumors have it Coach Malone and GM Booth never spoke, didn’t have great relationships - so the owner got rid of both.
