Gage Wood: Arkansas Kid Takes Omaha by Storm 🎉

Omaha, Neb. – Arkansas-native Gage Wood – born December 15, 2003, in Newport, Arkansas – etched his name into College World Series lore on June 16, 2025, delivering the third no-hitter in tournament history and the first in 65 years. What made it even more electric? A record-breaking 19 strikeouts in a dominant 3–0 win over Murray State – truly “lights out,” in the words of ESPN/X: “NO-HITTER ALERT… with 19 STRIKEOUTS!”  .

Wood’s bid for perfection came tantalizingly close: he was just one hit‑batter away from a perfect game, but on a 2–2 count in the eighth inning, his breaking ball grazed Dom Decker’s foot. Undeterred, Wood unleashed a primal scream and some victory high‑steps as he exited the mound.

Growing up in Batesville and honing his skills at the Razorbacks, Wood has been a hometown hero steadily rising into the starting rotation this season. His razor‑sharp pitch arsenal and unwavering focus reflect not just homegrown talent, but real Arkansas grit.

With this milestone under his belt, Wood is already eyeing what’s next: more wins, more history. From a shoulder injury earlier this season to commanding CWS glory, he’s on a mission – and so are the Razorbacks.
