In a move that has the political world and sports fans equally stunned, the White House and former President Donald Trump announced that Washington, D.C. will host the 2027 NFL Draft — and yes, it will be held on Pennsylvania Avenue.

But that’s just the kickoff.

Behind the scenes, plans are underway for a massive new NFL stadium in the heart of the District. The city, in partnership with private developers (and a not-so-quiet push from Trump himself), is eyeing the long-abandoned RFK Stadium site as the crown jewel of this redevelopment. According to officials, the new project will be “state-of-the-art,” with a retractable roof, digital fan engagement zones, a public transit hub, and — because this is D.C. — a luxury skybox called “The Situation Room.”

Mayor Muriel Bowser, who previously lobbied hard to bring the Commanders back to the city, praised the draft announcement, saying, “This isn’t just a football moment. It’s a D.C. moment. We’re going to make the nation’s capital the capital of sports too.”

The proposed stadium is expected to seat 65,000 with an expandable design for up to 80,000 fans — perfect for future Super Bowls, College Football Playoffs, or Taylor Swift’s eventual Presidential run tour.

Trump, never one to downplay grandeur, teased the announcement during a press event: “No draft has ever been done like this. People are saying it could be the biggest draft in history. And the stadium — it’s going to be tremendous. Not like that FedEx place in Maryland. Sad.”

Sources close to the NFL say the league is fully on board. Commissioner Roger Goodell reportedly toured the site in April and expressed “cautious excitement,” which in NFL terms is basically jumping up and down.

Aside from the stadium, the 2027 Draft will aim to revolutionize fan engagement. Plans include immersive “NFL history tunnels,” instant fan vote booths for best pick reactions, and a hologram-powered experience zone where you can be tackled by Ray Lewis (virtually, of course).

If everything goes to plan — construction, politics, and zoning drama included — the stadium is slated to open in 2028. But one thing’s already clear: Washington’s ready to go from Capitol Hill to gridiron thrills.

And this time, Congress might actually show up.
